We, Jan, Anita, Nicole and Jorick are all born in the Netherlands and in 2008 we moved to Australia. This weblog is describing our experiences after migration.
The last nine years in The Netherlands we had a very good time in “Bosch en Duin” on the “Utrechtse Heuvelrug”. We enjoyed our jobs, our peaceful home, our living environment, friends, family, cultural events and much more. Also the children loved their schools and still love their Dutch friends. Nevertheless, after two holidays in Australia we decided that we were ready for something completely different and moved to Brisbane in Australia.
Jan van Dijk was born in IJsselmuiden (NL) and studied Mechanical-, Control- and Electrical/ Telecom Engineering (at Delft University of Technology). After a range of management jobs he worked in The Netherlands as a corporate Strategist and BD manager at KPN (incumbent Telco in Europe) for 5 years. Jan enjoys backpacking, bushwalking, cultural activities (theatre, exhibitions, concerts), dancing and sports (fitness, jogging, skating, squashing, …). Anita Wandel, born and grown up in Oosterbeek (NL). She is Medical Practitioner, studied in Nijmegen (UMC st.Radboud) and Leiden (LUMC), and is specialized in Nursing Home Medicine. Until the move to Australia she worked as Nursing Home Physician in Utrecht ( Aveant / Gerimedica ). Anita enjoys backpacking and bushwalking, cultural activities (Theatre, Exhibitions, Music concerts), sport (fitness, aerobics) and reading. Nicole van Dijk is born in 2002 and went to the Kinderzee (creche/kindergarten) in Utrecht. When leaving The Netherlands she was 5 years old and was happily joining group 2 at the Juliana School in Bilthoven. She loves her Barbies and will be happy to show you her dances. In Australia she started in grade 1 and is now in grade 2 at Genesis Christian College. She loves her Tennis lessons, Swimming Lessons and the Christmas Carol Choir. She didn’t succeed yet to find a relaxed dancing school. More info can be found on her personal page.
Jorick van Dijk, born in 2004 was enjoying “kindergarten” at the Kinderzee in Utrecht and he was visiting the “peuterspeelzaal” at Oud Zandbergen in “Huis ter Heide”. He enjoys life and is a real explorer. Nicole even calls him “Jorick de sloper”. He is fascinated by Crocodiles and is exercising to become one. In Australia he started pre-school at Living Faith Early Learning Center, moved to Genesis Christian College (as soon a new pre-school was opened) where he is now is joining “”PREP” ( preparatory year). He takes swimming lessons at Albany Creek Leisure Centre just as his sister Nicole ans also started with tennis lessons. More info can be found on his personal page.
